That sucks. I was starting to talk myself into grabbing one to see if I could somehow jerry-rig/mount the wireless probe into a drum roaster. This has been my dilemma with somehow finding a way to keep track of the coffee bean roasting temp since a wired leave-in probe wouldn’t work. Ah well, the search continues. As our population ages there are more and more people with visual impairments and for many companies Accessibility has become part of their philosophy. It is not difficult to make an app that is accessible, but in the meantime I had already heard that apparently somebody tried your product some time ago and found it very difficult to use if not inaccessible. Obviously Chef IQ does not care about this and I will therefore go ahead and order the Meater Plus thermometer even if I think you may have a better product. Ultimateily I may just order both the Meater Plus and the Chef IQ and try/compare them and then send back the one I don't like. Someone on the Blind subreddit did suggest it as an accessible option with VoiceOver though so I pulled the trigger on one when it went on sale as a lightning deal, but by the time I got it, I’d already received the reply from Meater about it’s limitations for what I wanted to use it for. I’m currently using a Weber leave-in probe with a stainless steel stovetop popcorn maker which works well enough. The nice thing about the Weber app is that when you leave VO focus on the temperature readout, VO speaks the temperature change in realtime. I’d be curious to know what the Chef IQ folks say if they get back to you. I actually think the Chef Iq sounds a little better, it says it can handle over 700+°F for ambient temperature and it comes with a hub which is used as a charging base and which also has a speaker which can speak the temperature. It also connects the thermometer to your device via Wi-Fi, I assume it's Bluetooth from the probe to the hub, but then it's WiFi so you have better range. Thirdly, you can add I think up to 2 additional probes through the one hub which could be a bonus. Lastly, Chef IQ seems to also make a smart pressure cooker and other small appliances which all work through the same app. I sent them an email to ask about Voiceover accessibility, let's see if they reply and what they say. In my case, I was/am looking for something to measure the temperature of the roasting chamber while roasting coffee beans. I wrote the Meater folks and explained what I wanted to use it for, but they said that while it could handle higher temps when inserted into something, it was only rated around 200 and something degrees Fahrenheit for ambient temps (don’t recall the exact temperature they told me, but I know it wasn’t more than 300º). In order to properly roast coffee beans, you have to get around 400º depending on the bean. That and the way beans are roasted (lots of agitation), it might be too rough for the probe.
