I think this is one of those scenarios where ignorance is bliss and the
employee was trying to help to the best of his knowledge. Assuming that your
friend can properly execute gestures, voiceover screen reader and Siri will
take her a long way when accessing the phone.

If there are difficulties using gestures to go to the home screen app switcher
etc., your friend can customize voiceover gestures so it can be more intuitive
for her. For example, she can create adjuster so that she can do a two finger
swipe left to go to the home screen and two finger swipe right to go to the app
switcher. I personally use these gestures because it's more efficient and
recommend them to many people that have modern iPhone.

I have a friend who just purchased a iPhone 15 Pro Max through T Mobile. She
was told that she needed to use Voice Control. She does have a bit of usable
sight but tends to use Siri and Voice Over mostly.

Is it necessary for her to use Voice Control? What is its purpose? I think it
is making using an iPhone without a home button a bit more challenging for her.

Just trying to figure things out so I can explain them a bit better to one of
her care givers.
