QR codes are for scanning with a camera so if you open the email on your iPhone then you can't really scan the QR code. If you were to open the email on a computer with a screen, then you can use your iPhone to scan the QR code and it would take you to the information. Are you sure there is only the barcode and not a link you can click which would also bring up the information on a web page?
