I don’t have a 16 yet, but will shortly after my annual upgrade day comes up
with Apple, but I’m on the iOS 18 train. I think they should’ve left the audio
ducking the way it used to be. It used to work wherever voiceover was set. Now,
if I dictate into Facebook comments, VO gets real loud after I finish, and
stays that way until I go out of the FB app.

Subject: iOS 18, iPhone 16 Pro and audio ducking

I just spent some time experimenting with the new audio ducking and volume
settings while listening to a football game on SiriusXM.

When audio ducking was set to While Speaking, and the volume set to 199, it
worked as advertised. The game was not audible while VO was speaking.

If I set audio ducking to Always On, the game sound was very, very quiet,
almost like it was coming through the earpiece and not the speaker.

Of course, if audio ducking is off, then the game stays at the same volume
while VO is speaking.

The one place I thought this new feature would work great is during a phone
call when dealing with the menus where you must press a number, and it is hard
to hear VoiceOver due to the volume of the recording at the business or service
you are calling.

Sad to say, it seems to have no effect on those phone calls.

I tried with all the different settings. I used NFB Newsline as my test menu.

Audio ducking never kicked in no matter the setting.

There you have it.
