You start with the two fingers together and then move them apart to select text. You bring them together to unselected text you've just selected. I'm not sure about Facebook, but I've selected text in email messages, edit fields and the like. Remember that you can use the roter to determine the chunks that will be selected, e.g. characters, words, lines and so on.
