Richard, he says he can only access it from the lock screen (where it says "Swipe to unlock") so to my knowledge that is not subject to the auto lock which only kicks in as the name implies, once your phone is unlocked. However, I think one thing to try would be to see if the audio controls in Control Centre are accessible when using this app, he could then set auto lock to never, bring up the control centre and that might work.

Is your auto lock set to a short time? Though, that usually only happens when you have not touched your screen for a while. I can access audio control only when I am where the iPhone says: “Swipe up to unlock” and “AirPlay Audio”. The problem is that I can not keep the screen on here for long time.
