It must truly be old because anything I have had in the past 6 or more years did quite well and especially a newer phone like an iPhone 15 or 16 does extremely well with apps like the Seeing AI app for OCR on the fly (short text channel), regular OCR (document channel), barcode recognition, currency and even the handwriting. The same goes for Be My Eyes, I often have used it at night with just an under the counter LED lightstrip on and had good results. At this point it makes little sense to buy anything but an iPhone 16 or 16 Pro, maybe a 15 Pro would be OK if you get a super deal as those models are the only ones which support Apple Intelligence and you would have many years from a phone like this. In any case, the minimum requirement for the Meta View app which you have to have on your iPhone to get the most out of your Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses is iOS 15.2. I am pretty sure that the oldest iPhone which can run iOS 15 is the iPhone 6S/6S Plus which was released in 2015, also the first Generation iPhone SE and the newest/latest iPod Touch.
