Hi Carolyn, you are correct except if you share an AirTag with somebody else. The other person can also find that AirTag. So safe for instance, you edit the AirTag to your Apple ID, but you could also share it to another Apple ID so somebody else could also see where that AirTag is as well. My mom and I did this for an AirTag for one of our dogs.
