They are little silicone things which you slip over the stem of the AirPods so they are held more firmly and don't fall out of your ears. I bought them as well as the little silicone string which connects the two AirPods together and which should prevent them from falling as well, but especially right now I don't use them outside at all. It's winter and we have a foot of snow on the ground, the sidewalks are snowy and often with a few centimeters of fresh snow and if I dropped one of them and it fell into the snow on the side, I'd probably never find it again.
