CNET iPhone Update - Sunday, January 26, 2025 iOS 18.2: Bring the Volume Bar Back to Your Lock Screen in 4 Easy Steps Apple released iOS 18.2 in December, more than a month after the company released iOS 18.1. The update brought a handful of new Apple Intelligence features to some iPhones, like Genmoji and the Image Playground app. It also lets you add the volume bar back to your Lock Screen if you want to do so.
Apple got rid of the volume bar from Lock Screen when it released iOS 16 in 2022. That meant you had to use the volume buttons on the side of your iPhone if you wanted to raise and lower the volume of music or podcasts without unlocking your iPhone. Pressing those buttons increases or decreases your volume a set amount, but this could leave you choosing between a volume that's slightly too loud or too quiet. With iOS 18.2, you can bring the volume bar back to your Lock Screen so you can control your volume more precisely without unlocking your iPhone. Here's how to reintroduce the volume bar to your Lock Screen with iOS 18.2. How to get the volume bar on your iPhone 1. Open Settings. 2. Tap Accessibility. 3. Tap Audio & Visual under Hearing. 4. Tap the toggle next to Always Show Volume Control. Now, the next time you're listening to music or a podcast at the gym or on the bus, you can change the volume by using the slider on your Lock Screen.
