Barbara, which iPhone do you have and which version of iOS do you use? As Richard said, with iOS 18.3.1 and on an iPhone 16 Pro it makes no difference if the phone is muted or if Do Not Disturb is on or both and I actually don't recall that it ever was an issue before when I had an iPhone 13 Pro and using iOS 17 or iOS 16; before then I had an iPhone 11 and once again, I just never remember the alarm not going off.
