You could also create a custom gesture for unlocking the screen as I and some of the other people on this list have done: "For this, you go to settings, accessibility voiceover, then commands and then touch commands. Then you select the gesture that you want to use double tap it and swipe through the list until you find the action that you want to assign to the gesture. I copied another off of this list and assigned the gesture of a two finger swipe right as the gesture to go to the home screen and the two finger swipe left to activate the app switcher. I really like this setup its really fast and easy to use. You could do the same thing for accessing the control center and notifications.
