Well, my pleasure with getting everything set up at long last was short lived.

Watching TV the sound was very stable for quite a while last evening as we
caught up on several programs we had recorded.

However, playing music from my library or streaming from Apple Music was very
disappointing as speakers keep popping in and out.

So, I have no clue why it works best with TV and pretty poorly with music.

Unless the issue is our modem now since the router is so much faster than the
last one and our signal is solid throughout the house and yard.

Too much else to do to focus on it for a few days…

I am quite reluctant to upgrade my router, I have a netgear Orbi Mesh router
with 1 satellite in our house and actually I have the same at my retail store
except that it si the Orbi Pro. In any case, as far as Sonos goes I never have
any issues with speakers not connecting or dropping off or like some on the
various Sonos forums report having to reconnect them all the time. Also no
issue with lag or anything. My Netgear Orbi I think I bought in 2017 and it
does have 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands and I don’t have it set to separate them into two
separate networks, but I never have issues with some older devices which use
only 2.4 Ghz to connect.

I have downgraded my sonos system quite a bit and now basically just have the
Arc Ultra with 2 Era 300 as rear surrounds and 1 Sub 4 and 1 Sub 3 as dual
subwoofers, then a Sonos Amp in the bedroom which is hooked up to a set of
Paradigm in-wall speakers and a Sub Mini subwoofer, a Sonos Port connected to
my tube amp in my music room downstairs and then I have a slightly older set of
Sonos One speakers in the bathroom set up as a stereo pair and finally a stereo
pair os Sonos Move 2 in the kitchen. I guess if you count all components that
is 11, I also had a Sonos Roam, but it finally quit on me I think earlier this
year and I haven’t taken the time to call Sonos and bitch about it, I heard
some people have success with that since the original Roam did have some
issues. I don’t have anything hardwired but as I said, even throughout the
initial stages of the new Sonos app debacle, I never had any issues with
connectivity.

As for our Netgear Orbi, I’ll probably continue with it until there really are
issues, but while we have a fair amount of home automation devices and such,
it’s only my wife and me and I don’t yet see the advantage of going to a router
which supports Wi-Fi 7 and while there are more of them out there now, they are
still expensive and I just don’t feel like dealing with any potential issues.
My Orbi mesh router is set to upgrade automatically and at best I may log in
once or twice a year just to take a quick look it is really up to date. I still

Greetings,

For those using speakers made by Sonos, we bought a new router, the Nighthawk
RS200, by NETGEAR.

Our previous router was almost 10 years old and we were having issues with the
Sonos speakers staying connected.

After my wife did a fair amount of research, she discovered some great comments
on a social network site that talked about our new router specifically.

They observed that if you turn off the Smart connect, which leaves it up to the
router to decide which network, 5G or 2.4G your device needs to connect, and
instead, have a designated 2.4G for Sonos and a 5G for everything else and
connect Sonos to the 2.4G, the problems of Sonos speakers disconnecting,
reconnecting, etc., goes away.

Brilliant! We exclaimed!

It took about 6 hours, going through each of our 10 speakers a total of three
times, once on our own, once with a Sonos rep, and lastly with a NETGEAR
support person, to finally get them all working better than they ever had. The
NETGEAR support person had to change the default channel the 2.4G network was
set to use and now all is running very smoothly.

She set it to channel 11, which is in the range the Sonos person suggested.

Time will tell, but I'm very optimistic.
