The openRun pro and OpenComm are bone conduction. The sound comes through the bone in front of your ear.
The OpenFit 2 are Open Ear which is a earbud that instead of sticking directly in your ear like traditional earbuds like the airpods pro 3, 2, etc., they hook over your ear like the earpiece on eye glasses, but they sit on your ear canal, so you can hear everything around you.
And, for music, they sound much better than bone conduction.

Primarily it’s the form factor, the OpenCom are bone conduction with a band which goes around the back of your head whereas the OpenFit are earbuds with earhooks and they use what is called “DirectPitch™ open-ear audio”.

Hi, so what is the difference between the open run pro and open fit?

I ended up getting the open run pro also by shocks. I am glad they don’t stick in your ear. It bothered me that I had to use Bluetooth headphones or earbuds and have the earphone stick in your ear. I tried my best not to have things turned up too much when I had to wear the earphones. I just feel better that I can now use headphones that don’t stick in your ear and just go on outside your ear. And, I also like the fact that the music and everything you listen to sounds good. They are also really good for just talking on the phone. I also use the app that goes along with the headphones. That helps me be able to control what the headphones are doing a lot easier.

Well, I ended up purchasing the OpenFit 2 Plus through Bestbuy. Amazon has them on sale for $199 as well for Prime Day.

I should get them tomorrow, so we will see how it goes with them. Thanks for the recommendation, Richard!

Subject: RE: [BlindApples] OpenFit 2 Plus from Shokz

My first day with the Shokz OpenFit 2 Plus earbuds.

First, some basics about the earbuds and their physical design and packaging.  The price is $199.95.

The nonplus model is $179.95 which is only lacking the Dolby and the wireless charging.

They come in a square box with a short USBC to USBC cable and instructions.

The case is a clamshell design that has a nice strong closure.  The earbuds are held in the case magnetically.  The design of the earbud is that there is a hook that goes over and behind your ear, like the end of a pair of glasses if the glasses stopped at the front edge of your ear. The speaker portion then lays in your ear canal from the front angled slightly into your ear.  They do not block the outside sounds, or if they do, it is barely noticeable.

They look like the end of a thumb.  ON the top side is a physical button for answering calls, stopping, and playing music, etc.

There is no on/off switch.  If not connected to Bluetooth, they go into a standby mode after 3 minutes to preserve their battery.

They say that they will go 11 hours on a single charge and if the case is fully charged, you can get 48 hours of use on a single case charge.

10 minutes of charging the earbud in the case, gets 2 hours of use.

It takes about an hour to charge the earbuds from a very low charge to fully charged.

If the case is completely out of power, it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to fully charge the case.

The OpenFit 2 Plus has wireless charging capability and a Dolby sound setting.

I will get the negatives out of the way first.  I do not like the Dolby sound.  It is like they are trying to imitate a large stadium sound and it has too much reverb/echo, whatever you want to call it, and you lose a couple hours of battery time if you use it.  I was hoping it might be a little like spatial audio or Dolby Atmos, but no such luck.

Also, when using VoiceOver, there is a tiny, tiny, delay when swiping from item to item.  For example, I have a books folder on my iPhone 16 pro, and the first two apps are Voice Dream Reader and Bard Mobile.  When I first go into the folder, I might hear Dream Reader and the first flick right might just say Mobile.

If I flick back to the left, I hear Voice Dream Reader… and while typing, it is sometimes noticeable but not much.  I know some folks find any delay beyond annoying, but for the trade off in sound quality, I'm fine with it.

Now, for the positives.  They are completely comfortable for me to wear since they don't stick down in the ear but really are lying on top leaving plenty of room for outside sounds to get through.  I would feel very safe wearing these when walking with a GPS app.

If you want noise cancelation for listening to music, these are not for you, but I almost never use that even on the large over the ear headphones like the Apple Airpods Max.  I like having some awareness of my surroundings.

These little gems have much better base than any earbud I have heard.  Granted, I haven't heard a ton because most stick down into your ear which I find extremely uncomfortable.

There are a few EQ settings and one custom one where you can adjust the amount of base, mid range, and treble.  I don't find that all that helpful.  But, I'm not an audiophile.  I am fine with their standard mode, though the "Vocal" preset is fine too.

I don't need the base boost or treble boost, though I will experiment more with those.

I've listened to some audio book, a couple of classical pieces, some more rock pieces, and guitar solo and find their sound extremely good for such compact earbuds.

Also, they weigh next to nothing.  The pair weigh less than 10 grams, and an ounce is 28 grams, so barely over a third of an ounce.

I tested them on the phone with my wife from the other end of the house and she said my voice was very clear.  And she sounded totally fine through them.
