I am looking for information from anyone that has used a power wheelchair in
safe settings. I’m not interested in going out alone. But I am of the age where
most of my friends have their own physical issues and cannot push a manual
chair. I am looking for situations where I can go to the yarn shop using
paratransit, etc. I have no intention of being the super blind woman that has
to do everything that nobody else is done.
I went for an evaluation this past week. The woman that did the evaluation
claim that she had worked with blind people before and you know in certain
settings this should be safe. Well, when I walked in the door and she saw that
I couldn’t see the trial was over. I thought that I did pretty well using era.
Granted, I had a responsibility to come up with some suggestion so I did using
the Ray-Ban glasses. But at the same time I didn’t think I had to ask what is
the route you’re gonna send me on etc. so I was trying to split my attention
too many directions. I didn’t run anybody over. I had the chair on slow and the
one thing that I forgot to bring or to use during our trial, would’ve been a
white cane to trail the wall. But they gave me about a five minute trial and
told me that they are ref they are refusing to write for a wheel a power
chair. The reason I’m not excited about a manual chair is I have a serious
cervical spine issue that’s contributing to falls. My neck injury affects my
arms. I have neuropathy in my legs and arms and from falling, not being taken
seriously the knee replacement they did on my left. Knee is ruined. So that’s
kind of painful too. So if anybody has any suggestions or experiences or things
that I should try when I go to a different provider, I’d be very appreciative
thank you.
For everyone that celebrates Thanksgiving this week I wish you much happiness
and good times with friends and family.
