Shortcuts can be quite powerful since you can create a shortcut which does 10
different things. There is a Shortcuts app and there are many shortcuts in a
Gallery which are shortcuts others have created and made available. For
example, I once came across a shortcut which was riggered by the phrase "I'm
getting pulled over" so if you said that to Siri, it would start a video
recording and at the same time send a message to people you specified should
receive it.
There are also the shortcuts from apps which offer them, one example is Seeing
AI. If you open the Seeing AI app and tap on the menu at the top left, then
Settings > Configure Siri Shortcuts, you can specify phrases which start the
various functions of Seeing AI.
Once you go into that option, it will say "Select the activity with which you
want to use the Siri shortcut".
If you swipe right you have:
Read
Describe
Recognize World
Recognize Person
Recognize Products
Recognize Light
Recognize Currency
Recognize Colour
Find My Things
Recognize New Person
Browse Photos
Recognize Documents
Underneath all of this is the following explanation:
Assign phrases to each activity to access it from Siri. You may choose custom
phrases such as "What does this say" to recognize short text or "How much is
this" to recognize currency.
Of course you could enter whichever phrase you want, for example, if you had
trained Seeing AI to recognize certain people, you could set the phrase to be
"Whose ugly mug is this" or for currency you could set it to be "Hey baby, what
type of dough is this".
This is a simple application of Siri shortcuts, if you use the shortcuts app
you can create a shortcut which opens a certain app and then does things and
you can then assign a phrase just as in the example above to rigger the
shortcut.
You could also set a shortcut which isn't triggered by a phrase at all, for
example, you could make a shortcut which would play a tone or jingle when your
iPhone's charge reaches 100% or you could make one which says "Flashlight is
now on" when you turn on the iPhone's flashlight. Shortcuts can be super simple
and very complicated.

I haven't experienced any of that. If I put something in the oven, I say, Hay
Siri, set timer for an hour, like today with dressing, then Hay Siri, set timer
for 30 minutes for it to brown with foil removed.

Subject: Shortcut related

Dear all.

Sometimes I get suggestion regarding shortcut on my iphone. For instance,
sometimes the notification would say “shortcut, set timer for 10 minutes” I
assume it will set a timer if I double tap it. Can i do anything else with it?
Like bringing the icon for that shortcut to home screen? Looks like I don’t
understand the concept of shortcut especially most of the actions you want the
phone to take can be achieved by telling Siri.

Can some people share how and what for they use shortcuts for?
