Traci, yes, you can use multiple eSIM, if you want to see which carrier gives you the best service in your area it might be best to ask others who they use and find works well. It used to be that cellular companies like Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile etc. owned towers and then there are so-called MVNO companies (mobil virtual network operaters) who offer their own sometimes less expensive plans, but they don't own their own towers and instead are often owned by these larger main providers or lease capacity from them. However, in the United States this is no longer the case, below is an article from Chat GPT which explains that even the major carriers like Verizon and AT&T have sold most of their towers to tower companies and they then lease back space on these towers for their equipment.
Do U.S. Cell Providers Operate Their Own Towers? Most national U.S. carriers do NOT own their own towers today. Modern cell tower ownership in the United States has shifted almost entirely to independent tower companies, not wireless carriers. A recent industry analysis states that almost 65% of all U.S. cell towers are owned by American Tower, Crown Castle, or SBA Communications—not by carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, or T‑Mobile. This transition occurred because carriers sold their tower portfolios over the past 10–15 years and now lease the towers they use. Which carriers operate their own towers today? USCellular (United States Cellular Corporation) US Cellular is the only major U.S. carrier widely known to still own and operate a meaningful number of its own towers. * Historically one of the few carriers maintaining a tower portfolio. * While they lease some infrastructure, they did not sell off their entire tower base like the Big Three did. * Note: Our results didn’t produce a dedicated article on USCellular's tower ownership, but this is consistent with industry reporting and the fact that USCellular was referenced among carriers once operating their own tower companies. Carriers that do not operate their own towers today Verizon * Sold thousands of towers to American Tower (11,489 sites) and Vertical Bridge (6,339 sites) under sale‑and‑leaseback deals. * Now leases infrastructure from tower companies. AT&T * Sold 9,708 towers to Crown Castle under a major leasing agreement. * Relies on independent tower operators for the majority of its infrastructure. T‑Mobile * Previously operated “T‑Mobile Towers” but sold off nearly all tower assets over the past 15 years. * Now leases from tower companies. Who actually owns the towers in the U.S.? The U.S. tower market is dominated by three independent tower companies, not carriers: 1. American Tower: 40,000+ towers in the U.S. 2. Crown Castle: 40,000 towers, 100% in the U.S. (no international towers). 3. SBA Communications: 16,500 towers in the U.S. These companies own the physical towers, while carriers own the antennas and radio equipment mounted on them. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Traci Duncan Sent: Friday, February 20, 2026 8:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Trying out prepaid eSIM voiceover perspective Hi everyone, someone suggested to us to try out prepaid SIM cards to try out new mobile carriers. We have terrible reception with T-Mobile in our area and are interested in switching carriers, but don’t really know who to switch to. How does it work to switch to an eSIM with VoiceOver? Is it possible to switch back-and-forth between two carriers on one phone…? Clearly I’m very new to this.
