based on the description, I'm assuming it's also sending usage data back to Apple so it can use this in fixing issues in future products as well as improving their products down the road based on how people are using the iPhone. May not mean a lot to an individual user, but unless Apple is just discarding this data, I wouldn’t say there's no downside to it at all.
