I have had this same issue a lot. AS suggested by another VO user, I have solved it by 3 finger swiping to the left or right to change pages, and then trying to double tap on the edit field. Sometimes I need to swipe several times with 3 fingers to get to the edit field, but this usually works for me. I wish it were easier, but oh well.
