Hi David,
I can definitely confirm that this does not work for me on my 4 S, either. If it works for you then I think it is one of those bugs which some people experience and others do not. When I am on a call Voiceover at some point starts announcing the time every 20 seconds. I also have to unlock the phone and move focus away from that, but it does not stay focused away from that and happens in every phone call. When you move VO focus, VO will remember which field to have its focus on during the next call. I think I am mostly happy with this earphone. Pros: It is very comfortable. I can wear it almost all day and it doesn't bug me. This is pretty important since my ear has some nerve damage from a severe case of shingles 2 years ago. It was very easy to pair up with the iPhone 5. It pretty much did it by itself. A full charge on the battery lasts pretty well throughout the day. You can answer a call by just saying answer or ignore when the phone rings. You can hear all the music and voice over comments from the phone. The sound quality seems pretty good to me but I am not an expert. Cons: It does not have control over the music app through the headset as the Apple earpods do. When you press the answer button it says"Please say a command". To get to Siri you say "phone commands" and after the earphone wastes time saying Connecting the built in voice system of your phone you finally get to her. But you can only give commands that do not require a second response since you can't press and hold the answer button to get her back. So I can call a contact or tell Siri to play Christmas music or whatever but you can't use the headset to skip ahead in the music or stop it. But when you press and hold the answer button the earpiece says reloading contact list. Evidently it loads the contact list so it can announce the incoming calls. The sound quality is good although the mic picks up all surrounding sounds as I guess they all do. My husband complains when I talk to him on either the Blue And or the Apple Ear Pods since he has hearing difficulties and it makes too much background noise for him. He tells me to stop doing what I am doing and be still. So mostly I am very happy with the Blue Ant. I do have to learn how to stop all the voice over commands during a phone call, though, since the VO volume seems to be louder than the phone volume and it is difficult to hear the caller when VO is talking. I am still having issues with VO announcing the minutes and other things. It is a bit of a pain to have to unlock the phone during the call and try to find the end button. Focusing on this does not usually stop the announcements, though. But I think this last is an IPhone issue and not an earphone issue. I did try lowering the VO volume but when a call came in the announcements during the call were still louder than the caller.
