Instacast is also a good alternative but I prefer Downcast myself. I've also used iCatcher! Which is a great app and I also gave Apples own podcast app a try but I quickly went back to Downcast.

It remembers your place in the files and allows continuous play of podcasts. In other words, when one podcast ends the next one starts playing automatically. There are two speeds possible, the normal speed and double speed. You can either keep all the podcasts or set it up to delete the file after you have heard it.
