Hello Anita,
First of all, iOS 6 which you upgraded to, is not only for the iPhone 5. It can be installed on a 4S, a 4 or 3GS and most people report that even older devices actually seem to run better with iOS 6 than with iOS 5. Apple also reported that within 4 or 6 weeks after the release of iOS 6 on September 19 over 60% of all iPhone users had upgraded, a record number. As for downgrading, it is not an option so now that you upgraded, you are stuck with iOS 6. You may get some messages about how it maybe possible to downgrade if you do it within a few days of upgrading, but even if this may be possible, it is not an easy process and you would have had to do certain preparations. I don't know all the technical terms and the exact procedure, but for all intents and purposes once you upgrade you can't go back. Having said this, I think that once you understand some of the new features in iOS 6 you will probably like it OK. Now, as to your problems about the phone freezing. It would help to know which iPhone you have and if you upgraded via WiFi, i.e. from your iPhone, or if you connected the iPhone to iTunes and then upgraded via iTunes. I initially upgraded via the air (meaning without iTunes) and while the upgrade did complete I had some minor issues. You should definitely do a complete reboot of your phone which means to power it off completely, wait 10 seconds or so and then turn it back on. If this doesn't help I highly recommend you do a full factory restore via iTunes and setup the phone as a new phone. This is quite a bit of work depending on how much content you have on it (apps, music, books, ringtones etc.) and also because you will have to set up your email accounts from scratch, move your apps into folders and into the order you like on the homescreens etc. If you are not so technically inclined this can be a bit of a challenge, but in the long run it will be totally worth it. Lastly, if you are connected to your home WiFi and then leave, the phone will switch to 3G automatically and once you return home it will also reconnect to your WiFi automatically, no need to do anything. You can always check if you are on WiFi by checking what it says to the left of the time in the status bar. If it says something like "3 of 3 bars, WiFi signal strength" that means you are connected to WiFi. Depending on where you are in the house and how good your signal is, it may say 2 of 3 or 1 of 3 bars. If you are not connected to WiFi it will say "3G". You can, of course, also go to Settings and check what it says on the WiFi icon, if you have WiFi turned on and it says "WiFi On, wireless networks are available" that means you are not connected. If your WiFi is called "Anita's Place" and you are connected it will say "WiFi, Anita's Place". Please feel free to write me off-list if I can be of further help. Importance: High Hi List, I updated to the latest IOS, not knowing initionally it was for the iPhone 5. Is there anything I can do, in order to get back to IOS 5? When trying to update apps, my phone freezes. Is there anything that could be done to prevent these lockups? How can I have my phone to switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data when I'm away from home, and is this the best setting to use when not connect to my Wi-Fi connection?
