Just like with computers, the OS and apps are now being written for the faster 
processor and higher ram in the newer iOS devices. Remember, the 3GS technology 
is 3 and a half years old. IOS v6 has many more features and the 3GS barely 
works with it. I am pretty sure this is the last upgrade for the 3GS. The 
original iPad has already been removed from the upgrade cycle.
