Hi Donald,

The iPhone 4 has a 5 Megapixel camera and so does the new Fifth Gen iPod
/touch
The iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 both have an 8 Megapixel camera.

There are small improvements in camera performance between the 4S and 5 even
though both have an 8 MP sensor, the iPhone 5 has a higher quality
crystal/lens cover and apparently better low-light performance.

I would assume the the 5 MP camera of the iPhone 4 and that of the iPod
Touch are very similar in performance. One thing to keep in mind is the fact
that the camera on the various iPhones always have been considered to be
among the top 2 or 3 of any smartphone. There are phones out there with
higher Mejgapixel sensors yet in many cases the pictures still are not as
good as the sensor is only one factor, the lens is another and the
processing of the image is yet another.

As for tasks like object or barcode recognition or OCR, I think it makes
more difference whether you have good lighting and a steady hand than
whether you have a 5 or 8 MP camera.

I hope this helps,
Sieghard

Subject: iPod camera specs needed

I would very much appreciate it if some knowledgeable person on this list
would explain in layman's terms the specs for the rear camera in the iPhone
4, 4S, 5 and also for the fifth generation iPod. I don't need a detailed
explanation; rather, I just want to know how the cameras on the above
mentioned devices stack up against one another.

Thanks.

Don Roberts
