Jordan, The iPhone 5 is exactly the same width as your iPhone 4S. It is about as much longer as the thickness of your little finger, in inches that would be about 3/8 of an inch. This results in the screen being 4 inches oon the diagonal instead of 3.5 inches which is what your iPhone 4S has.
The thickness difference is less than one eights of an inch, in fact, it's about 2mm whereas an eighth of an inch is 3mm. Think of putting a credit card on top of an iPhone 5, that would make it almost as thick as an iPhone 4S. It is 20% lighter and if you hold an iPhone 4S in one hand and an iPhone 5 in the other it is very noticeable. One friend of mine did say it felt cheap and plasticky, but I don't agree with that. The 4 and 4S do feel very solid because of the glass front and back and the associated weight. I think the iPhone 5 does feel very nice and if you read about how they make it you know it's a super precise process with components accurate to a Nanometer and it reminds one more of the manufacturing of a precision watch. Having said all that here is the question: Is it worth to upgrade to an iPhone 5 if you have a 4S? Well, my answer would be that it is totally not worth it unless you absolutely have to have the latest. Apart from the thinner and lighter form factor, a faster processor and a marginally improved camera especially in low-light situations there just are not enough improvements to make it worthwhile. Oh, I forgot LTE, yes, it does of course have LTE/4G support, but unless you live somewhere where you have good coverage and are taking advantage of it because you constantly are online, download large files or attachments and so on that too is over-rated. If you are near an Apple Store or other store where they have them you can always stop in and just ask to hold one in your hand to check it out, but with rumours that the 2013 iPhone may come as early as June I would definitely not get an iPhone 5 now. I have a feeling that this year's iPhone, whatever they may call it, will have more improvements over the 5 than the 5 had over the 4S. I really don't have much to base this on, but I think it's time Apple something more than speed up the processor a bit or upgrade the camera from 8 to 10 MP. Just my thought.
