I think the downloading albums thing is to do with downloading offline so you can listen when you have no internet signal. As you can probably tell this is a feature I don't play with much but I think you would put the album in a play list and it would download that way. I stream most of my music on Spotify including radio which can be accessed from the bottom row of tabs, the second from the right.
