Well, I think simply dimming the screen to 0 should do the trick as well as
giving you a little more battery life on your trip: settings > Brightness
and Wallpaper > Screen brightness. You might also try setting a password so
in the event you lose the iPod along your trip you will be confident your
information is secure. (the previous information applies to iPod Touch 5th).

Fourth Gen IPod Touch as only internet device.
Other than operating with screen curtain on, listening to VO via
headphones, and holding screen of unit close to my body to somewhat shield
