So rather than configuring the triple click home command, why not a quick
double 3-finger tap twice to disable VO when playing a game? These 2
commands seem to do the same thing to silence voice over. There must be a
distinction, right? By the way, this iPod 5th I'm using did not have this
triple click command configured when I unpacked it. Also, by "Triple click
home" I'm assuming this is a triple press of the home button, right? When I
press the home button 3 times I get different unreliable results. (Shrug).

Tripple click home lets you toggle vo on and off without navigating
into accessibility which wouldn't be possible if vo is turned off
anyway.
Most people find that when playing games for example, they usually
work best with vo turned off. Note that as of iOs 5, the feature is
enabled by default.
