Oh this is proper behaviour. When listening to music, for better quality, people connect a speaker source through the headphone jack or Bluetooth. So, the assumption is that you want the playback to end when the speakers or headset is disconnected. If I am listening to something using my iPhone speaker and the iPhone is locked, I sometimes plug and unplug my headset to stop playback rather than turning on the iDevice.
