Hallo,
I have 2 questions re barcode readers and ythe iphone.
1. I have RedLaser installed. It is good at finding the barcodes, especially,
when I have a notion as to where it is likely to reside. I am using the scanbox
to make this easier and the box works well, freeing my hands for slowly
rotating/moving various products. However, I think that RedLaser is not really
linked into the Irish market, so, often, the results, when they are not just
numbers, are wrong. For example, Wheatabix show as a mobile phone case!!
Sometimes it is correct, depending upon the shop from which the goods were
purchased. So, question 1 is: in other countries do you get better results than
me and are you using RedLaser or something else?
2. Assuming all is working well, what sort of info should you be expecting, for
example, in the case of food, would you get the ingredients? Even when I get
the correct reading of the barcode I only find a general product description,
I.E. Sweet Corn, but no other info. OK, Sweet Corn is Sweet Corn, but is it
G.M? Is there salt added etc.
I know therre is Digiteyes, but I am loath to buy that rather costly app if
it isn't going to give me more info than RedLaser, a free app. So, will digit
eyes cover the Irish market, or the Australian one, for that matter, as I have
a friend wanting similar info.
Indeed, any experiences with barcode readers would be most welcome.
Sandy.
