I don't see a way to change the web view from standard to basic. I've
seen this in the Gmail interface, but not the Groups interface.
I'm using Orca with Firefox, but I assume this all works even better
with JAWS, NVDA or Safari.
I follow the link at the end of every message, i.e.:

I make sure I'm logged into Google with the same account I used to
subscribe with.
My focus is taken to the first message in the group. By using
alt+shift+tab, I pop back to the My Membership button and press enter on
this button.
This takes me to the next page and puts me in the display name field of
the section to change my membership options. I can now tab down until I
hear "Send me a email for every new message (about 111 a day). button.
Now I hit the space bar to bring up the menu and arrow down to the
option I want and press enter to select it. Unfortunately this page
doesn't get updated automatically, so I can't see that my change has
been taken, so I save and reenter to check that the setting took.
