Hi Joshua,

This method does close an app, but it does not remove it from the app
switcher. I guess it does actually shut down an app because if you do this,
for example, when you have music playing, pressing the home button will not
stop the music from playing whereas this method will stop playback. But I
find I might as well unload the app from the app switcher because you have
to hold the home key for about 5 seconds before the app closes and you are
returned to the home screen so it's not exactly fast and I can double press
the home key, double tap and hold and double tap again pretty much just as
fast.

It would be interesting to find out if this method you describe is actually
mentioned by Apple in the manual somewhere or if it's more like this
pressing the power button 6 times to crash the springboard, i.e. does this
actually crash an app or does it properly close the app?

Sieghard

Hello. "Hidden" is definitely the best word to describe this
command. Not many people know about it. IOs provides a way to
force quit applications. This is normally used if an app is
non-responsive, but I have used it a few times when I've been too
lazy to go into the app switcher. (lol) To force quit an app, do
the following:
1. In the app you want to force quit, hold down the power button
until VoiceOver says "Slid to power off."
2. Release the power button, and hold down the home button. In
a few seconds, you will be returned to the home scree, and the
app will be closed.

Subject: Alt F4 on iOS

Hi all,

In the event I may be missing something, is there an equivalent
for
Alt F4 on an iOS device? I would like to launch an app such as
Clock,
set my alarm, then simply close the app completely. As is I'm
having
to go into the app switcher and go through the process of forcing
an
app to close. I realize Apple does what it does, and I realize
that
ultimately there may not be many memory resources used, and I
realize
I'm using a different OS, but there might be a hidden gen of a
command
I've not come across, and I'm hoping someone out there may know
what
this close app command might be. (Smile).
