Hi Reggie if I understand correctly you're wanting to add a contact from your contacts to send a text message Or on email you can use two different ways you can do it the way that you were explaining it by typing in the first couple of letters or next to the to field there's an ad contact button and you don't choose a contact once you've typed in the first couple letters and chosen the name that you want I hope this helps you.
