This is often because you don't have the full phone number stored in your 
address book, or you have the same number stored twice.  Either way, the 
iPhone gets confused.

So make sure you have (123) 456-7890 and not just 456-7890 stored.

One foolproof method is to delete the number from the particular contact, 
then have them call you, and choose to 'Add to existing contact'

That way, the number will be stored exactly the way the cellular carrier 
transmits it.
