Hi Pam,

1
Here's what to do. at the bottom left-hand corner of your phone is the phone
app. double tap that with your index finger.
2 Now double tap voice mail in the lower right hand corner of your phone.

3In the top left corner of your phone is the status bar. this tells you your
carrier signal strength. Just under it is a button marked greeting. Double
tap that.

4 If you slide your index finger down the screen from around the middle of
the top of the screen you'll see 2 items. There is a message if you have hints
turned on on your phone that says set your out going message. If you don't
change it, it stays at the system message. If you want to create a personal
message some thing like hi. This is Pam. I'm sorry I can't come to the phone
at this time but if you leave your name and number I'll get back to you as soon
as I can. I am assuming that's kind of what you have in mind.

5 The default greeting announces it's self as default as you continue to
slide your finger down the screen. The item under default is custom. Double
tap that with your index finger.

Here is where you can record a custom greeting.Near the bottom of the screen,
about a half inch up from the bottom of the screen are 2 buttons. Play is on
the left, so you can hear your custom greeting and on the right is record.
This does what it says it does. These buttons are about a third and 2 thirds
of the way on the screen going left to right and are clearly marked. Just
double tap the record button to start recording and then double tap it again
because the button title changes to stop recording so give it another double
tap to quit recording. Double tap the play button to listen to what you've
recorded. If you aren't happy with it, record it again. The new recording
automatically deletes the old recording even if it's the system greeting.

  HTH

  Hope that helps.

Subject: New iPhone User Needs Help

  Hello Everyone,

I just got an iPhone, and am having trouble figuring out how to accomplish
some very basic things. Can anyone point me to a podcast, blog, document, etc.
that might help a somewhat frustrated new user?

For example, I am trying to record my custom greeting for voice mail. When I
call my own number, I am told to press "4" to set my personal options, but
cannot seem to find the keyboard to enter the 4. When I am on the phone and
touch the screen, Voiceover doesn't say anything. I also tried entering it
from my bluetooth keyboard, but it didn't seem to recognize it.

  Thanks for any help.

  Pam Ekstrand
