Hi Karen,

The password you were asked for would be your Apple ID password. Your Apple
ID is whichever email address you used to sign up for your Apple account and
it's also the same password you would have to use if you buy an app. I would
suggest you go to the following website first and try to log in with your
Apple ID and password because if you are not sure what the password is you
have I think only 3 or so attempts before you get locked out and then you
have to do a complete password reset.

If you try it on the website and it's not correct after the second attempt I
would recommend you just select the "Forgot my password" option and reset it
before the system forces you to do so.

If you still want to try it on the phone, you can go to "Settings" and then
either "iCloud", "Facetime" or "Messages". You can try and log in with your
Apple ID and password in either one of those 3 areas.

I just updated my IPad Mini, and when it restarted, it asked me to enter a
password.  It didn't like the one I entered, and I couldn't remember for
sure which password I used when originally setting it up.  There was an
option to bypass the password, so I tapped that.  It said the password would
be needed for Facetime, ICloud and IMessaging.

I'd like to try another password, but am not sure where to go to enter it. 
Can someone help?
