It is just different. For example:
you are given three letters like C A T which forms the word cat. Each letter is in a separate edit field. So you want to change the word cat (C A T) to the word dog (D O G). First you would double tap on the A in cat and type in the letter O to make the word cot. Next you would double tap on the C in cot and type in the letter D to make the word dot. And finally you would double tap on the T in dot and type in the letter G to make the word dog.
This is not the same as Word Ladder.

How does this differ from WordLadder? Is one or the other preferred? Thanks.

Subject: Accessible App. Free. WordCord Free

App Name: WordCord Free
Developer: Annsa
Description
WordCord - a game of strategy and vocabulary.
WordCord is based on the classic Doublets game invented by Lewis Carroll.
The aim is simple, change one word into another, changing a letter at a
time - but each change must make a new word.
WordCord lets you play the original games set by Lewis Carroll in the 1870s
as well as an endless number of new games generated by WordCord itself.
The games have different word lengths and complexities, so it's easy to get
started (and to get hooked!). WordCord will even help you if you get stuck.
WordCord will let you celebrate your successes through email or Twitter!
WordCord Free allows you to sample the full WordCord game. WordCord Free
allows you to play 3 and 4 letter games.
