Great, is there an app for controlling this thing, or is it all done from the unit?

The pairing and power buttons are on the right end of the unit. The power button is on top and is slightly recessed whereas the pairinng button sticks out slightly and is just below the power button. When you press thhe power button the unit should come on and start talking, in fact the first time it comes on it will be in pairing mode. The big button on top can be used to determine your battery status. The volume buttons are also on top one of whhich has an arrow pointing right (up volume) and the button to the left of the up volume has a symbol that looks like a dash whhich is the down volume. The Second button from the left on top is the speaker phone button which allows you to talk through the jambox on a phhone call.
