Hi there Troy. Jailbreaking is a way that you can gain access to all a lot more
things in your iPhone that Apple normally keeps from the typical user.
Jailbreaking is not for everyone. So it is not fair to say that jailbreaking is
good or bad. As an accessibility trainer, I do not recommend jailbreaking to
new users of the iPhone. Instead I like to show my clients how they can take
full advantage of the iPhone as it is. Some people might say that jailbreaking
is illegal. This is not the case. However it is true that if you jailbreak your
iPhone, Apple will not support you. In short, it will void the warranty. If
your iPhone is still under warranty and you need it serviced, you can always
restore and get rid of the jailbreak. Everything will go back to the way it
was. Just like doing any sort of software restore, you will have to make sure
and restore from a backup of your phone so that all your apps and settings will
go back to the way they were. This of course would be minus the jailbreak apps.
When you have a jailbroken phone you can still use apps from the app store like
normal. In addition however there is an app which allows you to get jailbreak
only apps and tweaks. Some jailbreak apps and tweaks are free and some are
paid. So it is very similar to the normal App Store. The best thing for you to
do is go to Google and do a search for what is jailbreaking. Or do a search for
advantages of jailbreaking. The list archives here also have a lot of messages
concerning jailbreaking and some of the good and bad. If you have more
questions, feel free to ask. However I definitely recommend doing that Google
search and maybe looking in the list archives since many of those questions
will be answered there.

Good luck.
