Hello Kawal and whoever is interested in the Standscan, Instead of wondering and guessing I took a few minutes to write to Standscan via the Contact form on their website. Since it was already Saturday evening I didn't really expect an answer, but to my surprise I received a reply within a couple of hours. Below is first my message and then the reply which explains about the power adapter and plug adapters:
Hello, I am a blind iPhone user and as you may be aware, your Standscan has caught the attention of many other blind iPhone users. The iPhone offers the freedom to do barcode recognition and OCR and hence offer a visually impaired user the ability to read text or recognize food packages via the barcode without having to apply specific labels or ask a sighted person. However, for a visually impaired person it is even harder to properly hold an iPhone straight and still and at the right distance to get a good image. You may not have intended your product for the blind and of course the market is small, but it is of great value. I am a member on a Google list called "Viphone". Here almost 1,500 members discuss the iPhone, apps and ask How-To questions and the list is always growing due to the amazing accessibility Apple has built-in to the iOS platform with Voiceover. Members on this list come mostly from the US, Canada and there are quite a few from the UK, but there also some from Ireland, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, South Africa, India, Vietnam and even other countries. Since a few people have bought the Standscan, many others have asked questions about it and one of the most common one is regarding the 12 Volt power adapter you offer. Could you give me a good explanation as to whether this is a universal adapter which can handle both 110/120 Volt with 60 Hertz (North America) and 220/240 Volt with 50 Hertz (most of the rest of the world). Most electronic devices I recently purchased like electric shavers, laptops and so on have such adapters. Also, do you provide any adapters with the power supply to address some of the most common plug configurations, e.g. for round prongs as in Germany and so on or do you ship the appropriate adapter according to which country an order comes from? If you could let me know I would be happy to post your message on the Viphone list. I am about to order a Standscan myself and would also like if you ship from the US or, since I am in Canada, do you have a distributor here so that the product does not have to come across the border? How about european orders? Do they ship from the US or an EU country? Regards, Sieghard Hi Sieghard, Thanks for your interest in StandScan Pro. The 12V adaptor is universally compliant 100-240V. We also ship the appropriate pin plug according to the country it is being ordered from. We have US 2 flat pins, European 2 round pin and 3 square pin (used in UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.) adapters. Currently we are shipping the products out from Hong Kong by registered post. We are looking into shipping from within the US which will be implemented once we can figure out how to have the shipping company include the right adapters, etc. We are so happy that our product is able to help and make a difference. Please feel free to get in touch with us for any further information you may require. Thanks Harry -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
