Hi Lori,

I kept your questions and answered them as good as I can after each
question:

1. How do I use Digit-Eyes lite to start with? I don't know where to begin.
Answer: Once you open the app there is a Scan button and Voiceover will
actually automatically put focus on it, all you have to do is double tap on
it.
The app will beep, Voiceover will say "Scanning, tap twice to cancel" and
then make a sort of click every second or so to indicate it's scanning.
It will probably be of use if you practice on a few small packages and maybe
ask a sighted person to help you at first until you get a feel as to how far
you have to be away from the package and so on.
Barcodes are mostly in a corner and rarely in the middle of a larger
package. You should definitely read the Help section on the website or in
the app as it gives some really good advice on where you can expect to find
barcodes on various packages, cans, bottles etc.
If the package isn't too large what works best is to lay the iPhone on top
of the package with the camera approx. in the middle. Then tap to start
scanning and try to lift your iPhone up straight and parallel to the
package. Lift it straight away from the package and try not to move it
sideways. Lift it a few inches and pause for a second or two to give the
camera time to auto focus.
If a barcode is recognized the app will beep again and after a second or so
the result appears.

2. Do I need to sign and create an account with Digit-Eyes so I can use
there data base?
Answer: You don't have to sign up for an account to simply scan and
recognize barcodes.

3. How do I create and make my own labels and record my voice on the label
so that I can start labeling can goods, CD's, bathroom products such as
shampoo, body washes etc, and anything else I want to label?
Answer: You can actually simply scan the barcodes that are already on the
shampoo, body wash etc. If they are not recognized you can record a voice
label for them and the next time you scan the barcode your voice label is
read out.

4. Which labels should I get?
Answer: That one I can't really answer since I have never made my own
labels, but it very much depends on what you want to use them for. I believe
they support very small labels and of course you can also order their
washable labels which you can sew into clothing or apply to plastic
containers like tubberware. For example, you may have a container you always
use for certain things and apparently you can permanently apply a label with
a heatgun and it's even dishwasher proof. Of course you would need a heatgun
or ask somebody who has one to do it.

Regards,
Sieghard
