Hi
Check if the reader has two 'rings' in the connector instead of one.
Normal headphone plugs use tip for left channel and ring for right
channel. Rest of the connector is ground. Special connectors use
second ring for control signals or microphone signal.
Standard splitters will hanle only tip. one ring and the sleeve.
Youn can feel the insulation between tip, ring(s) and sleeve with your
fingernail.

Hello,
I received the square card reader and used it twice with success. Before
using it with clients, I did the following and it worked.
1. Open the app and enter the amount of the transaction in the appropriate
field.
2. Enter a description if I want to do so in the description field.
3. Plug the card reader into the headphone jack.
4. Swipe the card.
5. Unplug the card reader.
I discovered that if the card swipe was not successful that I would still be
in the amount and description screen after unplugging the reader, but if
swiping was successful then after unplugging the reader I would
automatically land in the signature screen. I then turn VO off for signing
the screen, and then turn VO back on to activate the continue button.
Everything from that point is a breeze.
BTW, I found that if I am using my Plantronics bluetooth headphones and I
plug the reader into the headphone jack, I lose VO until I unplug the
reader. I also noticed that the tip of the plug on the reader is a bit
different from the stereo tip on earbuds or headphones. If I plug the
reader and earbuds into a splitter, will the reader actually still work
properly?
Thanks,
DJ

Hey DJ.
I use square myself. It's a great business tool for what I need. My work
around on the sound jack being used by the square is either a splitter, I
plug square into one jack and used to plug my Icom into another. Now, when
I can I use blue-tooth, or my braille display, which gets round the sound
problem neatly for me. Hope this helps.
Peace
Nick

I am not sure about the accessibility of the app currently. I heard
one time the app itself was at least accessible enough and maybe
completely, but the issue to get around is that the module needed
plugs into the headphone jack. So you have to work around that and I
remember some discussion around that topic, but don't remember for
sure of the entire conclusion. Possibly Bluetooth for the sound output
may work?? I think there may be some work arounds, but not entirely
sure of them or their degree of success. A local coffee shop here uses
it on an IPad mini now days. As the customer I am suppose to make some
selectgions after they slide the card, but I can not make those
selections. It wants me to select if I am leaving them a tip and if I
want a text message receipt. They do not get a tip for holding a cup
under a spout and possibly entering a food order into the register and
I don't care about a text receipt. One day I mentioned that they could
set voiceover to be on triple click of the home button, but they
reminded me about the module plugged into the headphone jack too.

Hello to the list,
I am thinking about trying Square as a means of collecting payments
from customers. Has anyone on the list had experience with Square
and if so, would you be willing to explain what you liked or disliked
about it?
Thank you.
