I had this problem a year ago. After about two weeks, I contacted my local Apple store and was told to sync my iPod to my computer. I did this, my computer updated iTunes, and after I ejected the iPod from the computer, I went back to the App Store, clicked "update all", and it worked. The Apple store told me that although the unit can update on its own, it does need to sync from time to time.
