Hi Lori, I had been using it to scan barcodes, and it does work very well for that.
The labels have numbers on them. You place the label on an item, then scan it, then record your own description. You'll have to know what it is. If you don't want to print out your own labels, you can order them already printed from Digit-eyes.com. It is most important to go there and read carefully all instructions. They are very thorough.
