Hi Lelia. I'm investigating to see what is sent in a welcome message, if any to see if this can be done. I personally can't stand Google Groups, and if we move this list to Mailman I'll be like, totally, happy. Anyway, I'm all caught up with moderated messages, and so things should be on track for now.

Hello, may I suggest that when someone joins the list, they can Somehow know
that at first they are unmoderated status? I had a feeling that that might be
the case but I wasn't sure. Thanks

Hi all. I got a bit behind on going through the moderated messages queue. This
was in part because I had access technology testing all day Thursday in Austin,
and then because I had other personal things to deal with this weekend.
Consequently I got behind on going through the queue. However such is life when
you are moderated. I've since allowed the right messages to go through, and so
you should see them shortly. I also just removed around 25 messages which were
held in the moderation queue because they were from people who are on
moderation asking why their messages were not making it to the list. There are
2 reasons why this is so, and this is really the major reason for this post.
I'll explain below.

Reason 1. You are a new member. If you are a new member, then this one is for
you and you don't have to read reason 2. If you are not a new member, then skip
this and read reason 2. I define a new member as someone who has joined in the
last couple of weeks. By default, all new members are on automatic moderation.
This isn't because I like that sort of control. Instead it's because anyone can
join this list. Unfortunately that also means spammers. So, I have the list set
to automatically make new members moderated. Once I see that the new members
are doing 2 things I will remove the moderation flag and then their posts will
no longer be moderated. The 2 things are; 1, the member is a real person not
posting obvious spam, and 2, the member is posting on topic messages and not
one liners or other useless messages.

Reason 2. You are not a new member, but you are on moderation. If you are not a
new member, meaning that you have joined more than 2 weeks ago, and you are on
moderation, it's for 1 of 3 reasons. 1, you used to be a new member and are
obviously a real person, but you are constantly posting off topic messages or
one liner messages and so your moderation flag never got removed. 2, You used
to not be on moderation, but you were added to it because of posting off topic
messages, one liners, or were rude or attacked another list member. 3, There is
no reason 3. I just want to see if you are actually reading this.

In the case of new members, once I determine after a few messages that you are
a real person and are posting on topic messages I'll remove the moderation. In
the cases where you are on moderation for any other reason other than being a
new member, I'll write you privately when I remove your moderation flag, or I
will write you to remind you that you are still on moderation and explain why.

I hope this helps clear things up.
