I think your misunderstanding the point of the reader. It was intended as a
reader for novels etc and never intended for text books for students.

Subject: Re: best epub reader app for I Phone and accessibility?
Hi Dan,
I guess Gutemberg project uses the so-called "social DRM", out of
copyright protection.
For this kind of ebooks the Apple free downloadable app "Ibooks" could be
suitable enough, but only in case of simple contents books, I mean
especially novels and litterature books in general.
In short, all that books readable almost sequentially from start to end,
from top to bottom.
Unfortunately, in case you need reading more complex books, the Ibooks app
often fails, not showing you all the features of the book.
I'm mainly thinking of books filled with tables, footnotes, indexes with
nested items, headings, meaningful images, refeences and so on.
Ibooks seems not to recognize tables and consequently they cannot be red
according to their structure, by column or by line, but just sequentially
line per line.
The text description tags of images, when present, are ignored as well as
nested paragraphs in an index.
Setting the VO rotor in navigation by headings you are not allowed to jump
to next or previous heading by the usual one finger down or up sliding
gesture.
I have found more suitable to reading Epub format, but not copyright
protected ebooks, the app called "Ilike2Read", downloadable not for free,
despite I did not find a complete accessible and usable app yet, capable
of taking advantage of all the Ebooks navigation features.
Not to mention Ebooks Adobe DRM protected that are almost inaccessible to
VoiceOver in Iphone and other apple devices.
Only the "OverDrive" app seems dealing a little with that kind of books,
but with bunch of shortcomings.
Of course, this is just my personal experience,
hoping it could help.
Mario.

does anyone know the most accessible and usable app for reading epubs on
