Well, the delete button is along the top and stays there. The flick down gesture offers to delete or default (whatever that is) on an item in the left column. But also, if you read what you want, then tap Edit, then you can doubleTap on all those you want to lose, then find a button at the bottom saying delete ## messages. ## is the number you marked of course. I skim mail on the Mini running finger down the left until I find one, tap once with another ifnger which is a split tap so it opened in the main message pane, then 2finger flick up in the middle of the screen to get it reading. Then resume sliding finger or thumb down the left column looking for "selected", then past that to anything unread. Works quite well when I first roll out of bed and not up to speed to do more.
