Hi Keith,

As others pointed out already, there is no indication that you are currently
backing up. However, as DJ pointed out, there is a "Backup Now" button if
you go to Settings, iCloud, Storage and Backup and the Backup Now button is
the second last thing if you swipe right.

What you can do is just once force a backup by using the Backup Now button.
Maybe do this very late in the evening when you normally have your phone
plugged in. Then from that point on the backup will happen at that time or
close to that time provided you plug your phone in and it's connected to
WiFi.

You don't have to be plugged in to power if you force a backup using the
Backup Now button, but it won't do it automatically if you are not plugged
in. If you double tap bBackup Now you can check the progress of the backup,
it will tell you how man percent of the backup is done and give you an
approximate time remaining.

Regards,

Sieghard

Must this be overnight local time, or if connected to power and locked, will
it work during daytime hours?

Is there an indication on the screen it is backing up so as to not
disconnect power and unlock in the middle of a back-up, regardless of time
this is happening?

Thanks. Keith

For the automatic backup to occur, your device must be plugged into power
and locked.

I am confused about the iCloud backup. Because, when Tony and I purchased
our Apple devices, we were told to leave them on the power overnight for an
automatic back-up to the iCloud to take place. Have we misconstrued the
information we were given?

Just turn on airplane mode then turn wifi back on. iCloud always get backed
up with me this way.

Hello,

When I attempt to backup my iPhone 5 to the iCloud, I am told that it

failed. This has happened over and over again despite my efforts to limit

what is actually backed up. Do members pay for additional iCloud service,

or do you use alternative methods for backing up your iPhone? I would

appreciate your help. Thank you.
