It's amazing how much of this depends on lighting. I think Anne's idea of
using light detector is a good one to see how much light you have. Even
then, I have had this app and Tap Tap See tell me different things about the
same object in different times of day. The other thing is how much of the
thing you actually have in the picture. I was doing it when my wife was
watching and she could tell me when I had the item in the picture. I was not
always right. I've used the trick that someone came up with about putting my
finger on the top of the phone just over the camera and pointing to where I
think the object is. But the further you are away from the object, the more
off you can be with just the slightest turn of the camera. Fortunately, they
are somewhat forgiving and I also know that it will take some practice to do
a better job of correcting for distance, direction, and lighting.

Subject: Re: Talking Goggles Observation and Question

This was one of the first tests I tried last night when I heard of this app.
I simply couldn't get much out of Goggles. I pointed it at my desktop and
laptop monitor and did hear the word "win" but not much else. I once again
tried other windows and only heard a word or two or few letters at most.
Though one can probably move Goggles across the screen a little bit at a
time, this is not yet a good solution. One only gets maybe 1% of the content
on screen (depending on screen).
This is expectable since there are tons of issues at play: direct lighting,
position of Goggles, dirt on screen, steadiness, ambient light, type of
content on screen etc. It does read more on the screen than TapTapSee and
alike. (Smile).
