Did you try it? Going to the last item on the screen/page and then using the single-finger flick left will take you to the last item in a list. It is easier to use the four finger tap in the bottom half of the screen than to find the item in the lower right corner, and in the unlikely event that there is no footer bar on the screen, the command still takes you to the end. I use this command all the time to get to the end of very long lists.
For apps such as contacts and music player, there is a Rolodex feature along the right edge. Once you find the rolodex, you can either use a single finger vertical flick to slowly work your way through each letter, or you can use a double tap and hold pass through gesture and then slide your finger vertically slowly to find the letter that starts the name you are searching for in the list. I use the pass through gesture because it is much quicker and the letters are always in the same place along the right hand vertical edge.
